Sea Turtle

A unit of professional guides and camp staff lead and support each kayak expedition, ensuring safety, comfort and great food.

The company is owned and operated by Brent Wibberley. Brent was born and raised in Zimbabwe; moving up to explore the wilderness of Kenya in 2003. He has a passion for the more remote and wild corners of Africa and was captivated by the wild country of Kenya’s north coast.

Brent has experience guiding safaris in Zimbabwe and taking kayak expeditions on African waters. He has paddled the length of many of Africa's large and remote lakes, including Lake Kariba (12 days), Lake Tanganyika (35 days) and Lake Victoria (15 days). His experience for uncharted waters has seen him assist other expeditions, such as the first descent of the Blackwater River in Canada (12 days). Many of his expeditions are world firsts and he has published several articles and stories on his adventures, including the book ‘In Search of the Strange’.

Brent has trained in seakayaking in South Africa and Canada and is an honorary member of RECSKA of South Africa and is ORCA certified from Canada. Brent also trained at the renowned Royal Geographic Expeditionary Advisory Centre in London, qualified in medical response, is a keen photographer and an avid flyfisherman.

Fred is a kayak guide, growing up in Mombasa and taking a great interest in seakayaking. Fred joined the team at the end of our first season and is now a veteran of our expeditions. Fred is trained in rescue techniques and guiding and when not on expedition he can be found running our day tours on Lamu Island.

Captain Asthman
is an experienced dhow captain and local Lamu resident. Since the first recce trip into the area Brent and Asthman have explored the islands and creeks of the northern Lamu Archipelago and have worked together to develop the expedition routes. Asthman is our camp manager and his knowledge of the islands and the local tides and currents is a valuable asset to each expedition.

Chef Alfred is our experienced camp chef; able to produce amazing meals throughout the expedition. Seafood is his specialty but no meal is too difficult for our star chef.

Camp staff help in setting up each camp and providing vital support.

Altogether each expedition offers a high level of staff to guests, making your experience all the more comfortable, safer and rewarding.
